SPACEDOG AND MORE AT THE BFI

As part of their GOTHIC season of classic horror cinema, the BFI in London will be hosting an evening called Vault: Music for Silent Gothic Treasures on Saturday, December 14th. Its a selection of silent films with live and newly commissioned soundtracks and its curated by Spacedog's Sarah Angliss.
Heading the bill will be Spacedog with a performance of a new soundtrack to the 1928 film of The Fall of the House of Usher. As well as the full live band the Spacedog crew will be accompanied by the usual group of rag tag robots and automata. Also of note to members of our parish will be a newly commissioned recorded soundtrack to the 1928 film, The Black Pearl from our very own Advisory Circle .
There'll also be new work from Exotic Pylon’s Time Attendant  on tabletop electronics and extemporisations from Bela Emerson, a soloist who works with cello and electronics.

THE LIGHTER SIDE OF CONCRETE AND CLASSROOM PROJECTS

The Parish Council would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Jez Butler (of Death by Chocolate) for his new album The Lighter Side of Concrete. Its a highly enjoyable and brilliantly executed homage to the work of the BBC Radiophonic workshop's John Baker. Its out on CD on Disques Boum on 15th October and can be pre-ordered here and now. You can stream preview clips right here...

Also gratefully received from Trunk Records, Classroom Projects is a magical compilation of 60's and 70's school records. These gems  are much beloved by some of the longest serving Ghost Box artists and are in evidence here and there in their back catalogue. Fans of the Toys and Techniques blog will love this strangely beguiling selection ranging from the light and folksy to the darkest avant garde. Naturally enough Ghost Box are all over this one, its remastered by Jon "Advisory Circle" Brooks and cover art is by Julian "Focus Group" House. Available now with preview clips in the Trunk Shop, CD and DL only (the LPs are sadly all gone by now).

STUDY SERIES 10 - BELBURY POLY AND SPACEDOG

The concluding single of Ghost Box's Study Series is due for release on 16th October. Belbury Poly collaborate with Brighton based cabaret electronics trio, Spacedog on two tracks that explore their overlapping areas of interest. The results are haunted by Jenny Angliss's mannered vocals, Sarah Angliss's elegant theremin and electronics and Jim Jupp's dusty analogue synths.

It has the usual luxurious Julian House designed packaging and comes in heavyweight vinyl. Available on 7" or download,  PRE-ORDER NOW from the Ghost Box shop. (Ghost Box shop customers ordering the 7" will be entitled to a free download version on the release date.)

GHOST BOX T-SHIRTS, BADGES AND ARTWORK

There are two new T-Shirts over in the Ghost Box shop available right now. Both designed by Julian House, one is based on the artwork for The Focus Group's Elektrik Karousel and the other is a new Ghost Box design based on the old 70s and 80s Granada TV ident.

Also available now is the Ghost Box Badge Pack B. Including Advisory Circle, Belbury Poly and Focus Group badges based on recent album art.

Finally there's a very small quantity of high quality art prints remaining from last year's Ghost Box exhibition and art sale in Glasgow's Mono. Illustrating a variety of Belbury Youth Club activities, each 70x50cm print is signed and numbered by Julian House. In fact since these went on sale yesterday evening two of the three designs have already sold out, so you'll need to act quickly to get one of the last copies remaining in the world. (The good people that run the Ghost Box shop strongly advise you opt for recorded delivery if ordering one of these.)

GEORGES VERT - AN ELECTRIC MIND

New on Melodic records this month we would highly recommend the cosmic disco odyssey long player by veteran French composer and synthesist, Georges Vert. Compiled and produced with the help of this parish's very own Jon Brooks and first re-issued digitally on his own CafĂ© Kaput label last year, this time round it gets a vinyl release (with free download codes included). There are a few of these very limited edition LPs here in the Ghost Box shop.

DOWN TO THE SILVER SEA

There's a new compilation LP out on Moon Wiring Club's Gecophonic records this week. Featuring Kno (who may or may not include Jon Brooks in its line up), Sarah Angliss (of Spacedog), Time Attendant, Moon Wiring Club and Howling Moss (which may or may not feature Pye Corner Audio's Martin Jenkins). Its never entirely clear who's doing what with whom on this record but this is par for the course on Gecophonic. Its a delightful Seaside Summertime Special all the same and comes in beautiful and insanely detailed packaging by Ian Hodgson.

Official release date is 33.07.23. Of course it is. However there's a limited supply available in the Ghost Box shop right now.

THE SOUNDCARRIERS

Friends of this parish, The Soundcarriers will be joining Ghost Box for a new album this winter. Meanwhile there are still a few copies of their marvellous limited edition album The Other World of The Sound Carriers floating round.

Its a psyched out compilation of instrumentals (some of which are versions of songs that will make it to the next album on GB), all with The Soundcarriers unmistakably powerful and dynamic analogue production. Listen here.
