BY OURSELVES

The Parish Council very much enjoyed  a screening of Andrew Kötting's By Ourselves in the Belbury New Spirit Hall yesterday. A psycho-documentary-drama about the poet John Clare's 80 mile asylum escape from Essex to Northamptonshire in 1841.

Our parishioners should be persuaded by the involvement of the following remarkable people:
Iain Sinclair, Freddie Jones, Toby Jones, Alan Moore, Jem Finer, Macgillivray, Stewart Lee and a straw bear.

The film can be seen in selected cinemas and online here now.

OTHER VOICES 03 AND 04, COMING IN FEBRUARY

The next two singles in our Other Voices series both feature very special guests.

Other Voices 03 introduces an exciting new ensemble, The Pattern Forms. Made up of Jon Brooks (The Advisory Circle) with Ed Gibson and Ed MacFarlane (both of Friendly Fires). Expertly crafted, dreamy, electronic pop with light, airborne vocals and just a hint of dark magick.

The next in the series is by Steve Moore, well known for his retro futuristic work both as a solo artist and as bass and keyboard player with Zombi. This single for Other Voices, captures an elegant and minimalistic performance from Moore on analogue synth, Hammond organ and vintage string machine. Two perfectly balanced and paired down science fiction landscape miniatures.

Here's a beautiful trailer video for the B side of Other Voices 03, The Sacrifice, made by Ed MacFarlane:

Both available from 27th February on super heavyweight 7" vinyl or download. Pre-order here now.

GHOST BOX HAUNT THE GREENMAN AGAIN

Ghost Box will be putting in an appearance at this year's Greenman Festival in South Wales. On the afternoon of Friday 15th. Jim Jupp and Julian House will be Disk Jockeying between talks in the Talking Shop tent. The set will precede a rare and exciting  interview with Shirley Collins. So the serenely summery mix of electronics, psychedelia and soundtrack will have distinctly folky flavour. (Folk Militants please note: Its not quite what's billed on the GM website !).

Also in the cinedrome tent (screening time TBA) you can see The Ghost Box Retrospective film, commissioned by the London Short Film festival earlier this year for the ICA.

Finally Ghost Box will be playing a show on Greenman Radio ( 87.7FM ) at 1pm on Sunday.
Don't forget your transistor radio.

UPDATE 13/08/14: There'll be an extra slot for the Ghost Box DJs at 3-ish on Sunday afternoon in the Talking Shop to open for the mighty Gruff Rhys.
And the Ghost Box film retrospective will be screened at some point on Friday night (we think).

THE SOUNDCARRIERS - ENTROPICALIA

Entropicalia is the new album from The Soundcarriers, a band new to the world of Ghost Box records. Its due out on 20th May and to launch its release here's a video by Julian House for the track Boling Point.

The Soundcarriers switched on sounds are filmic, fantastic and authentically psychedelic. The rock solid rhythm and bass of songwriters, Adam Cann and Paul Isherwood provide a jazz inflected, motorik groove for Dorian Conway’s guitar and the whirling keys and sunshine voice of Leonore Wheatley.

Jesse Chandler of Midlake guests on Hammond and flute on two tracks. Also guesting, is movie actor Elijah Wood to talk the listener through a mathematically guided trip on the extended wig-out This is Normal.

Sumptuous packaging for both CD and Vinyl is designed by Julian House with liner notes by Ben Graves (of  Toys and Techniques).

Released 20th May on LP, CD and Download. Pre-order here from Friday 25th April.

GHOST BOX AT THE ICA

As part of the London Short Film Festival in January, London's ICA will be screening a selection of Julian House's films for Ghost Box Records. Its a compilation of various short films, animations idents and promos made over the last ten years for various gallery events and Ghost Box's occasional live event, The Belbury Youth Club

After the screening there'll be a Q&A with Julian House lead by Bob Stanley (member of Saint Etienne and author of Yeah, Yeah, Yeah). This will be followed by DJ-ing in the ICA bar by Ghost Box and Mr. Stanley, accompanied by more projections and slides until late in the evening.

The screening is at 18:30 in ICA Cinema 1 on Saturday 18th January
Tickets £10.00 (£8.00 concs.) available here .

Here's what the festival say:

Julian House’s video for the label is a peculiar mélange of children’s television, 1960s underground animation and evolving op-art mandalas. Using a combination of new digital and old analogue techniques they conjure a world where TV station indents become occult messages and films for schools are exercises in mind control and collective hallucination.

Ghost Box will be screening two film pieces with music and sound by various Ghost Box artists in collaboration with the group Broadcast, these are bookended by a collection short idents, animations and music promos.
